On the road again

Yay. Made it home for the storm. Both favorite sons are in Narrogin, however at least land 'phone lines and mobile service are now restored so they are contactable. Washed my hair, lights are on and a spot of washing is hanging up by the pot belly fire, drying. All's right with the world, and I hope that it is with you also.
When a child is learning to drive, there are perks. Especially on the long drives. This is just so good.

I have given much thought about my hexagon quilt.

As I have completed 75 GF, and 20 of those with partial edging, I am reticent to frog.

So after much playing around ...............................

this is the design that I have come up with for the centre ............and the outer quilt?

At this stage it is unknown.

(PS the GFs aren't coloured in - this is just a layout guide.)

The layout grid I printed off Lizard of Oz

I'm in a bit of a quandary and I'm hoping that someone can help.

I have been making 0.5" hexagons for over a year now and been sewing them into grandmother's gardens and in fact I have quite a lot of them. However today I saw a fantastic hexagon quilt that was scrappy all over, with no regard to light and dark except that it was and the outer border was a greyey/brown fabric. I can't remember which blog it was on. Has anyone seen a quilt like that? Could you point me in the right direction AND am I delusional to even think about frogging my hexagons and piecing them together with a laissez-faire attitude?

PS I also asked the same question on Hexagon Along 2

This is one of the things that I did today ALL BY MYSELF.  Sorry for the shouting but it was fantastic.  No children, no spouse.

I also picked up my new sunglasses (in my favourite Blues Brothers style) with the darkest tint that they make.  And my eyes went 'Aaaaaaaah'.  The library also figured in my day - always a great destination - and went to a fabric shop.

I have quite a stack of hexagons made into grandmother's flowers; another stack that have been basted onto the card and a whole stack that have yet to be basted. I consolidated all that I have here decided that I needed to order around 7000 hexagons to finish off, sounds so flippant 7000, my great hexgon quilt. There have been times where I have thought of other things to make with those that I have already made - egg warmer, glasses case, table runner, doll's quilt - however I have to keep going and one day, sometime when I'm much older we will be able to sleep under it. All those little pieces of fabric from people who threw them out as they thought that the pieces were too small and there it will be. I'll hold that thought. Hmmmm ......... just had another thought, I hope that the younger Sweeties don't both want it. There's no way that I will be able to make another.

Before I forget, at Deb's 200th Post Giveaway there is fabric and a lovely book to be won.

Our walk on Saturday was just grand. The weather lovely and the company just perfect. The Librarian, the middle Sweetie and I walked, talked, sat, looked and ate our way along the track and enjoyed every minute of it.
We travelled North by car up the Albany Hwy to the carpark near Sullivan's Rock. Rearranged our clothing to achieve the right combo and then set off across the Highway and then onto Sullivan's Rock. Across the rock we went and just gorgeous with the moss and the lichens and the size of the rock. The magic of these 'rocks' is special. Onwards and upwards we went and joined the Bibbulmun Track for our journey up Mt Vincent and then finally the jewel of the day, Mt Cuthbert

Ascending Mt Vincent.

Descending Mt Vincent. Easy going down, hard staggering up as the last climb of our day.

First glimpse of Mt Cuthbert, thanks to the Librarian

Sundew, droscera sp. An insectivorous plant, resplendent in the sun, especially in the morning when covered with dew.

Hexagons can be sewn anywhere. How much joy can a person have? It was heaven.

The Librarian was off and taking photos; the Sweetie was off exploring and I just breathed and looked. Totally wonderful and awesome and we just have to go again and look at that view.

Lovely shot taken by the Librarian by laying down full length on the granite rock.

As always these veins of quartz in the granite always fascinating.

Mt Cuthbert, Mt Vincent, Mt Cook and Sullivan's Rock are monadknocks.

Remember this post when I spoke about being a woman possessed, well it was morphed into this.

Yesterday, the Librarian, the youngest Sweeties and I were to be walking a track that we have set our eyes on all winter, however the lurgy struck, so I'm in bed making short forays into the realms of cleaning. VERY SHORT forays and scuttling back to bed to lie down and overcome the 'exertion'. Yes I know it's all in my head, however at the moment it feels as though my heart has taken residence in my head. This is what I have being doing with the hexagons started as a side project to use up all those little pieces, it doesn't require much energy and I can sleep between stitches.

So Close

There are 10 of the little suckers to go, so I will wait for a quiet interlude and enjoy the final stretch. The reason why I also writing this entry is that gingerquilts left a lovely comment offering me more of my addiction, however I was unable to reply as it just bounced right back, sooooo gingerquilts if you are reading this please email me again.

I ran out of available blues when I was down the donga but had a stash of hexagons hidden down there so I started making these. I see a main body of hexagons appliqued onto a border of dingy blue. I also see a strippy quilt, with the feature fabric replaced by these hexagons. I especially see a woman consumed.

The Day that Was

Well I still feel ill, however I have partially stripped two doors, a small cupboard and nearly spun a bobbin of alpaca fibre. So it's my own fault. And the hexagon count is at 157. That means....................23 to go.

Hexagon Fest

The lurgy that the Sweeties had, has a new host and I'm not a very hospitable one. I wasn't able to go for my bike ride this morning so I'm pretty miffed. Yesterday I made more 1/2" hexagons for my Christmas Wreath and no, I'm not giving this one away. I've already completed the middle wreath and I need 180 hexagons for the outer blue border. This is what 103 1/2" hexagons look like. These papers are available through Lizard of Oz and they get everywhere, so be warned. Some of these hexagons have been used three times and are a bit floppy so will be retired. I'm thinking of making a quilt with this size hexagon, just with all the little bits of fabric. It might be a very small quilt, but it will be fun doing it. I think I need to get out more.

Christmas Wreath

A long time ago, like January last year I became all excited (again) and found these little hexagons by Lizard of Oz, and I embarked on many journeys always carrying these little hexagons with me. They have been everywhere because they were so handy to carry, even if I was riding my bicycle I could take them with me as they are so small and light. It was one of these trips that I decided that it was to be for Blogless Kathy. I finished the piecing and then prevaricated big time with how to quilt it. In the end I took a leaf out of Lazy Gal Quilting and did the Baptist Fan treatment. I did mine with Aurifil 12wt variegated yellow thread (not that it is very clear) and fairly large stitches (I'm out of practise)
At the end I was so excited to give it to BK, I forgot to photograph it, and I had missed Christmas again, so BK took these photographs for me. The quilt that it is hanging on is one that BK created from a Dresden Plate Swap that I organised to teach people the different ways to create Dresden Plates and primarily how to draw their own, BK as usual has done a magnificent job quilting her quilt and experimented with trapunto whilst doing it. The hexagon quilt is titled 'Christmas Wreath' however BK is using it everyday where it can be seen.
I had so much fun that as soon as I finished BK's I commenced another, which is for my family.

The Christmas Wreath

Slowly I am working my way around the back of this small quilt. It seems to be taking forever, so much so I've started some more hexagons for another wreath.
